I saw some similar things when I volunteered at a shelter a few years ago and that brought it all back. A bunch from a puppy mill, one from a private owner who let grooming get out of control. She (the dog) was a tiny little poodle/Chihuahua mix or something like that. It was impossible to tell at first other than her size. Her fur had matted into material like plaster casts around most of her body. The shelter went through several sets of clipper blades getting the bulk of it off. I helped a friend work on getting the rest off of her. We got blisters from the scissors and tools we used. I still have a scar from a scratch from one of her nails we uncovered. Some of her toes were bent around crazy directions in these "casts". I remember when we got to a pocket of new fur and realizing this was a cute little white curly-haired dog under all the mess.
