It's like watching the streetcorner prophets marching around century after century, with signs saying "The End Is Near!"--after several thousands of years, the reaction is "yeah yeah..." and :eyes:

I think what makes 2012 different is that it's not a prediction that the world is going to end (Emmerich movies and a number of people's apocalyptic yearnings notwithstanding). Instead, we're supposed to leap ahead in spirituality and vibration. Plus, what with the Mayan prophecies hitting the same time and referencing the planetary alignment with the galactic center (caveat: one of the authorities--Carl Calleman?--believes the date is off and this already happened), it seems to have more substance to it.

However, I think if we sit around on 12/21/2012 waiting for some dramatic jolt, we're going to be sorely disappointed. And that's what I "fear" the most--when "nothing" happens on that day, we're going to be assaulted by tons of people (yes, here on DU--Cynic Central--especially) shouting "Nyeah nyeah you said the world was going to end and nothing happened--you're an idiot!" and any protestations on our part that we expected no such thing are going to fall on deaf, self-righteous ears.
