I thought there was another thread in this section that covered fake veterans who wore medals illegally. I did not find that thread when I searched. I wish to start one so to keep information fresh about the problem.

Michael Gerald Weilbacher, 48, of the 200 block of Horsehoe Drive is charged with violating section 704 (a) of title 18 of the United States Code which reads:Whoever knowingly wears, manufactures, or sells any decoration or medal authorized by Congress for the armed forces of the United States, or any of the service medals or badges awarded to the members of such forces, or the ribbon, button, or rosette of any such badge, decoration or medal, or any colorable imitation thereof, except when authorized under regulations made pursuant to law, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than six months, or both.According to the complaint, which was filed on Nov. 11, Weilbacher attended the Marine Corp Ball in St. Louis County wearing a series of military medals including, among others, the Navy Cross.
Weilbacher made an initial appearance before United States Magistrate Judge David D. Noce Wednesday in St. Louis. Weilbacher will be arraigned on Dec. 7. Weilbacher was released on $1,000 bond. If convicted, Weilbacher faces six months in prison and/or a fine of $50,000.
