4. Yes, we had thought about the monopod idea.
I had the ISO set at 200 for these since it was cloudy and late in the day. I probably could have gone a little higher to compensate. The cameras now have such great noise reduction at the higher ISOs.

I'm just looking forward to getting out in some bright sun with some animals. I'm thinking particularly of the Dall sheep which are usually on a hillside just a little out of range of the 70-200. Also the next time I see something spouting off in the water, I'll know whether it's an orca or a gray whale. I'm still not sure which I got shots of in Kodiak -- I think they were orcas because I did see a flash of black fin every now and then when I magnified the shots in the camera, but honestly I couldn't even really see them with my naked eyes since my eyesight is not the best. Jim would be all excited pointing, and I couldn't see a thing so I just pointed the camera in that direction and pressed the button. I was amazed I got anything at all. :)
