the level of denial there is incredible. I think the WH is truly isolated and doesn't comprehend how much of the country is unhappy with the current state of affairs. I don't know how they explain the polls to themselves.

Yes, the R Congress could do it without *'s consent but even that won't get them re-elected in 2008. In fact, some of the hardcore R voters might feel the President had been betrayed by his own party, no matter what they're told.
