I saw on a documentary that he didn't even have running water for much of his childhood. I think that probably has a lot to do with why he is a liberal, he knows the cons are the party of the rich.
There was another story on that documentary about him that I was thought was pretty amazing. After he had published Carrie and finally started to make a little money for himself, he bought a new car. But when he went back to his hometown to visit he didn't want to show off, so he drove back in the same old beater that he'd left in.
King seems to me like someone that doesn't let success go to his head.
