Schumer is, of course, going to heap support on the incumbent. But if Lieberman loses the primary to Lamont, the party will go with its own man, not a newly independent Joe. Count on it.

Schumer has to deal with Lieberman in the Senate evryday. So, naturally, he's going to support him as long as he has to deal with him. But if Joe loses the primary, Schumer no longer has any reason to play nice with Joe, and he does have every reason to support his own party.

If Lamont wins, Schumer will stab Lieberman in the back.
