1. it sounds like provocation....
if leftwing protestors showed up to insult a dead soldier, the piggy would kill them.....the fact piggy does nothing proves phelps is 1) part of a grand scheme to enrage the populace against all protests, esp. legitimate ones 2) colour the anti war effort itself as goofy 3)divide the people against themselves, with rightwing 'support the troops' clashing with rightwing cultural warriors who accuse the troops of fighting for a corrupt society; wingnuts get very edgy when confounded, and thus easier to direct to violence as a cure all...strangely enough, the fact the 'war' is really illegal also emboldens the fake protestors, who can claim that america is evil which the 'war' proves....
besides this, the paid rove agents only number about a dozen or so, so it's mischief making on the cheap- win win for the busheviks
