But I just can't fathom why the supposed party of business is so out of touch with economic realities.

Most of those arguments have been debunked by experience.

The last raise in the minimum wage in the 1990's was followed by the perhaps the bigegest period of economic expansion in history....During the 1950's and 60's, when the minimum wage kept closer pace with the cost of living, it was also a very good period for business and the economy.

I don't think the minimum wage caused such growth -- but it sure didn't stop or slow it.

I would agree with them that tghere are jobs or employers that might have a problem with it. But if Republicns were concerned about smaller employers, they ought to be pushing for some degree of flexibility, to accomodate that.
