I think that he justified a lot of things by saying that Democrats needed to do everything to stay in power because things would be a lot worse with Republicans in office.

But as many negative things as you can say about Clinton, he at least considered everything that he did very carefully. He listened to different people and different ideas even when he disagreed with them. He did at least try to do what was right. Also, he had arguably the worst opposition congress since Andrew Johnson.
