Rep. Curt Weldon (R-PA) planned a personal WMD hunt in Iraq with Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-MI). The “congressmen planned to persuade the U.S. military commander to lend them the equipment and men to go digging by the Euphrates” for a cache of WMD believed to be there.

One of the best comments on ThinkProgress:

I was once in a training course on Capitol Hill where we had an instructor from the Library of Congress. She told us her job was to “answer any question asked by a Member.” She then said the two “most stupid” questions she had been asked, which she had printed out, framed and hanging on her office wall were: 1) “A member called asking for information on the pros and cons of child abuse.” and 2) A member called at 11:15 am saying he needed to know by 11:30 ‘what Abraham Lincoln did after he left office.’

She then looked at the class and said “THESE are the people running our government.”
