I really thought the older version of the movie was better,
but your dream sounds exactly like scenes in that film.

I had a dream in a command and conquor simulation (PC video game)
I was flying in a helicopter over a battlefield command of air-cav (helicopters),
ground-gattling cannon emplacments, and bunkers. Well, the enemy had developed
this massive incinerator cannons that shoot like artillery, but move like humvees.
Well, these flexible artillery were able to, using computer pinpointing porgressively
erase all my battlefield emplacements unless the air-cav and short range air
support can keep the artillery off. WEll, as my aircraft are refueling, the
enemy launches a massive attack of incinerator artillery, and my entire division
is screaming in agony as they die on the ground beneath my helicopter.

The air command ultimately wins the day in my dream, but i am scarred by
the reality of this burning field of dying men, hundreds of invisible beneath
a fuel-air artillery-shell barrage of fire, and then their burning bodies
still moving whilst half charred on the ground.

Battlefield command video games can get a bit too real at times indeed. I
empathize with how the dreams frame an immaginary force and the damage it
can do, as if the reality shock of too-real a dream might ward off the
real event on some lucky planet.
