9. actually, it happens all the time
I work in a community Emergency Department where we see a large proportion of uninsured/underinsured patients. When someone comes in with stroke-like symptoms, they get treated like anyone else, no better, no worse. If they need an angiogram or an MRI or emergent surgery for an identified aneurysm or AVM, they get it. I call a neurosurgeon and get them transferred to their care without questions regarding insurance. Decisions are not made in the emergent setting on ability to pay.
