10. The hipocrisy....
From the report intro:
1. countries in which power is concentrated in the hands of unaccountable rulers tend to be the world’s most systematic human rights violators. - hmmm... yes, thats right, and they even had the balls to call themselves out on it!

2. human rights and democracy are closely linked, and both are essential to long-term stability and security.
- given US corruption has long overturned democracy for plutocratic corporatism, this maxim explains how the US is exporting instability around the world.

3. some of the most serious violations of human rights are committed by governments within the context of internal and/or cross-border armed conflicts. - yep, the drugs war is a classic, where the US is invading and overriding the human rights of millions and millions of its own people and in other nations in its percieved conflict.

4. where civil society and independent media are under siege, fundamental freedoms of expression, association, and assembly are undermined. - wow, the bush administration is describing itself.

5. democratic elections by themselves do not ensure that human rights will be respected, but they can put a country on the path to reform and lay the groundwork for institutionalizing human rights protections. - as if we didn't know...
