123. Let me ask you a question ...

Does the niece understand your political persuasion?

On edit, I ask this because if she knows where you stand, then she sent an e-mail that she knew would probably perturb you. I have a friend who proclaimed to me she was a "lifelong Dem" prior to the 2004 election but kept sending me all manner of "let's pray for the troops" and "let's thank the troops", flag-waving stuff until finally I just began sending her "enlightenment". She stopped sending me that stuff but she still corresponds with me. Of course, it's not a family relation, which makes a difference. In my experience, starting up with family leads to a lot of ill will. But if she knew how you'd probably feel about this, I say, she deserves your informed response.

By the way, I argue with my younger brother about politics constantly. He is ultra-wealthy and so naturally sees things through a different lens than I do. He voted Libertarian in 2000 and then Democrat in 2004. Still, I remember two years ago telling him there was war on the middle class and he laughed at me, saying that corporations "need the middle class". Guess he understands differently about that now. More things I told him have proven true that he disputed earlier, as well. Everybody's gotta learn, sometime. I guess I don't mind taking some heat while educating others.
