He published many influential scientific articles, including an article in Nature illuminating gene hopping in the cabbage white and mourning cloak butterflies. Bush is a leader in decrying global warming, documenting year-to-year deviations in monarch migratory patterns and population decline.

"I'm a butterfly scientist," said Bush in an interview conducted by Time Magazine of under-achieving scions of powerful families. "My wife, our twin girls, and my son make a decent living on our farm in Connecticut. We live simple lives and contribute to the good of the planet. Could I have been president? Maybe.
