...and how do you bring democracy to this situation?

Many in power right now do not understand history--or civilization for that matter. Not
every country can be like the United States. Not every country aspires to be like the
United States. Our country is a thriving democracy because of the very-unique trailblazers
who dared to discover and create something new. Not everyone on the planet thirsts for
what we have.

We're just so damn arrogant. We assume that OUR way is the best way--and the only way.
The United States is a unique animal. You can't box up our way of life, plop it down
in the middle of the dessert and expect it to thrive--anymore than you can expect Americans
to adopt another country's culture, overnight.

We can't force our way of life down the gullets of those who don't want our way
of life. You certainly can't change the world--if you lack respect and reverence
for those who do things differently than you.
