They're imposing the Pottery Barn rule - "you broke it, you bought it".

The problem with this strategy is that the Saudis are extremely vulnerable to overthrow. I give them no better than 50-50 to last out the decade. The oil multinationals are waiting in the wings to come in and recover direct ownership of the Arabian upstream supplies that were nationalized by Aramco after the 1973 Israel-Arab War.

All the intrigue we hear about the factional infighting between Bandar and al-Turki leads me to believe that the Saudis Royals are being manueuvered into a civil war that will be the prompt for reacquisition of The Prize.

Conflict in the region has been all about this since the mid-1990s.
