Walkin to the gallows.
Losing the love of your life, your very being...

Here in the Democratic Underground,
a reservoir of ideas, feelings, creativity,
and passion.

United in the cause of Justice and Liberty.
A Noble Cause.

Poets and patriots,
egos and wannabes
newshounds and some dogs,
Legislators and Senators.

Democracy.

The Land of The Free
The Home of the Brave.

A lot of what I read here disturbs me.
A lot of what I read here inspires me.
Some of what I read merely gets me
through the day.

The judgements of others here
without cause or necessity.
Threads that are filled with hate
of our fellow human being -
both disturb and anger me.

It is your passion that keeps me here.

I both love and hate this country.
Each with cause and passion.

I contacted my Congresswoman for a Capital flag.
It hung from my window, I wrapped myself in it.
I am an American.
There is that feeling we all know
in our guts, that intense patriotic pull that brings tears
to our eyes.

Having deep feelings of injustice personally
I needed to make a political statement.
I thought of burning this flag. I am glad I have that right,
for now anyway.
Personal satisfaction would have been the empty result.
I never allowed that flag to touch the ground,
handled in the respect and care deserving it.
I folded it, sent it back to the Congresswoman.

I want no flag that flew over the Capital under
the Bush Regime.

Without this basic feeling of kindred spirits in
a time of Constitutional unrest, Unjust and Illegal war,
a president who should have been Impeached years ago,
and world wide chaos -
I would be alone. Alone in my anger, alone in my rage.

It is this underground, a blip on the
World Wide Web
where freedom still reigns.
Where Constitutional Rights are still protected.
Here is where history lies.

A dictator was hung,
A president lay in State.
Betty Ford weeps.
