I can understand that. Everyone wants to be looked after.

It seems a little strange to *me*, however, that from your tone you seem to think that the consequences are somehow concrete and immutable rather than the result of policy or a series of decisions. Do you feel that figures in authority have any responsibility for their power over the ordinary citizen, or are we responsible for our own actions and also the actions of figures in authority? If so, whose actions are the figures in authority responsible for? If not their own, this perhaps sets a dangerous precedent.
