I moved to the UK in 94, returned several years later. And of all the things that had changed for the worse in this country with the Repug ascension, I was least prepared for the 24/7 hate that had gained acceptance on the airwaves here while I was gone.

NEVER EVER did I expect to return and find scum like O'Reilly HUGELY POPULAR. We watched him in the UK sometimes. Put him down to a blip on the radar. Outrageous in the Limpball/Stern sense, bound to have a few followers among the ignorant rebellious youth.

But NO! He's only one of many, and ADULTS idolize them all!!

I just don't understand. Someone please explain to me why sadistic hate-mongers like O'Reilly and Coulter and Malkin and Hannity and Crosby and Scarborough and -- jesus the list goes on and on, pick a cable news channel -- why they weren't pilloried the first time they drooled their hate on air. Hung, burned, tarred and feathered, run out of town on the rail.

The America I remember wouldn't have hesitated. These hate-filled cretins represent NOTHING American. And yet they SURVIVE. Unevolved plankton spewing their ignorant crap day in and out AND PEOPLE APPLAUD THEM...and (S)ELECT PRESIDENTS BASED ON WHAT THEY SAY!!!

What happened? Yeah, Bush** and the RW nuts came to power. But what happened to American decency? Did I miss some inverting of the space-time continuum?? Did aliens come and suck the values out of this country while I was gone, suddenly making it A-okay to give these mental midgets their own programs so they can inflict their venom and barbaric views nationally? Why aren't they attacked outside their studios or arrested for hate crimes??

Blow the entirety of Iran off the map? When did indiscriminate HATE and VIOLENCE become an acceptable, appropriate American value to be flaunted on tv??

WTF has happened to my country!!! I'm ASHAMED of it!!!
