13. lots of overgeneralizations
My point was that people make a big deal about small differences in the political moods of states here in the US. If a state's registered voter population is 45% Democrat and 50% Republican, it's viewed as a "red state." For example, my state has 2 US Senators that are Republican, but the Governor is a Democrat, as is the mayor of my city.

Politics can get a little muddy anyhow. Lots of Republicans aren't very conservative. And many of the new Democrats that got elected to Congress are more conservative than the other Democrats that have been in Congress for some time. Political parties have changed over time too. Essentially, the Democrats today are much more like the Republicans were in the 1800s and vice versa. I'm neither. I'm a Libertarian. Let's just say that a lot of my economic views and the role of govt will differ from nearly all the people who visit this site regularly.
Many have no idea who he is, but I'm a huge fan of Milton Friedman (R.I.P)
There is a growing number of people like myself in the US, as people get fed up with both Dems and GOP.

Being atheist in the Southeast US is no big deal. Most people profess to be more religious than they really are, no matter where you go in the US. If I had to guess, I'd say that across the US, perhaps 7-8% of people fit into the stereotype of what people think of when they think of the 'bible-belt.' Where I live, it's perhaps 10% of the population. Not a big difference, but people make it out to be that way.
