2. "Radical"
"let it not be overlooked just how radical is the leftist agenda for America: They envision a completely different nation from that of mainstream Americans. "

I don't know about the party, but if my personal agenda were enacted, the United States:

would not be at war
would not spend more than the rest of the world combined on military aggression and weaponry
would collect more taxes from the ultra-rich and give more aid to the poor and homeless
would provide national healthcare to all, people would pay based on their ability to pay
would give equal rights to all races and sexual orientations
would enforce a minimum 35 mpg on passenger cars from the 2008 model year, 40 mpg from 2012 model year
would finally place some limits on the power of corporations to control the electoral process
would force those same corporations to operate in an ethical manner without harming American citizens, or lose their charter

If that makes me a radical, so be it. If the radical-militarist-ultra-right-social-darwinist present US paradigm is "mainstream", then I REALLY, REALL, REALLY do NOT want to be "MAINSTREAM".
