7. The Price of Liberty: Paying For America's Wars
The Price of Liberty: Paying For America's Wars
Author: Robert Hormats

Saturday, June 23, at 12:00 PM

Robert Hormats looks at the history of how America has paid for its wars. The author relays the initial arguments of Alexander Hamilton who understood that the Revolutionary War would place the newly independent country in debt if not for the establishment of certain financial principles which have been replicated throughout the countries history. Mr. Hormats contends that the Bush administration's decision to borrow heavily and lower taxes deviates from a long standing American tradition which he argues could lead to a ruinous result. Robert Hormats is the vice chairman of Goldman Sachs International.

Robert Hormats is the vice chairman of Goldman Sachs International. He is a former member of the board of directors of the Council on Foreign Relations. Mr. Hormats is a frequent contributor to the The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, The New York Times, and Foreign Affairs.
