4. Good Points...

*snip*

"Noncitizens are subject to our laws and to being deported if they do bad things"

*snip*

This is the point for me on so many issues like this, babylonsister; they should be subject to our laws but they should also be acknowledged as holders of the same rights we accept as being "endowed by our creator" with, i.e.: inalienable rights (pun intended). :D

On all sides of many issues people often confuse our rights as being the result of the sufferance of a benevolent government rather than inherent rights to be protected by government.

I would think those rights should apply to anyone, no matter where they are. The ideal is that here, in the United States, we are supposed to have a system in place which protects those rights; whereas, in many other countries, those rights are not considered a part of the human condition.

Our nation was progressing, slowly and through much internal strife, bloodshed, and bigotry to expand those protections in a forward momentum that should have carried all in it's path; we have regressed so far under this administration and the influence of Fundamentalism in government.

If illegal immigration is going to be raised as an issue they should go after the employers...

just my 2 cents (and probably a bit off from the track of your OP)

:D
