I was nursing my daughter once, and this older woman came over and wanted to sneak a peak at her, and said she looked darling asleep in her mama's arms. And she got close enough to try to see her face and only then did she see I was breastfeeding her. And she recoiled and said, "Ewwww you're doing THAT!" I was traumatized for a little bit - I was careful and still this woman made the act of feeding my baby seem shameful. When you're full of post-partum hormones and unsure about how you're handling motherhood, that is the last thing you need. And that's why I am so supportive of mothers' rights to breastfeed in public. Babies need to eat and women shouldn't be shamed over doing something so natural.
