11. Unfortunately, Wendy's franchises are symptomatic of the cultural idea that workers are tools.

The result is no motivation, high absenteeism, and high turnover. If the workplace were designed in such a way as to motivate workers by making them feel like they have a stake in the decision-making structure and rewarding them with good pay, customer service would go up, and customer wait times should go down with increased productivity.

If you really want to affect Wendy's, join the local labor unions and work to unionize the local franchises. Direct action works. IWW has been working to unionize Starbucks shops in NYC. I know Wendy's and Starbucks are service-sector jobs, but at the current rate, the only jobs left will be service-sector jobs, so it makes sense to unionize them to replace the unionized manufacturing jobs that have been lost.
