89. McGovern - my ALL-TIME favorite Democrat

Along with great men like Frank Church, Birch Bayh, Fred Harris, Paul Wellstone.
McGovern was the most decent man to ever serve in the United States Senate, imo. I absolutely love the man. Anybody here old enough to remember Fred Harris? He was almost Humphrey's running mate in 1968 and ran the most liberal campaign EVER for the presidency in 1976. McGovern told an audience in Colorado once that Harris was the most liberal man to ever serve in the Senate and he would proudly take the number two spot. George McGovern would have made a GREAT president!
