the idea that THESE ideological battles are/were the same thing as facing down the territorial aggression of Germany and its allies through military intervention during both REAL world wars?

I don't think they're the same thing at all.

If there's a WWIII, WWIV will be fought with sticks and stones. Or shards of sharpened sheet metal and rusty pipes.
