Protest held at proposed site of Blackwater facility near San Diego

Fortunately the site lies just barely within the boundary of Congressman Bob Filner's (D) district and NOT within Duncan Hunter's (R) district. Filner is quoted in the San Diego Union-Tribune as saying, “Blackwater is a black mark on American democracy.” Filner has told The Associated Press that although his district includes the Potrero, CA site, Blackwater officers did not contact him until after they met with San Diego County planners, and after the local planning group unanimously approved a preliminary proposal. (Five of the nine members of that group are now facing recall elections.) Last Sunday (Oct. 7) a protest was held near the site, with about 200 anti-Blackwater protesters and about 15 pro-Blackwater counter-protesters.
