44. A possible third option could be the term "take it to the bank"
Generally it means a sure thing, but I have heard it used colloquially, as in "overwhelming odds" -- like "You think this team will win?" "Oh, you can take it to the bank!"

In such a case, it describes an act of faith or odds, rather than as absolute 100% always empirical truth.

Just a more liberal interpretation, probably due to my personality - I tend to give people leeway when in a friendly discussion board, or friends around the table just shooting the breeze and such about what a racist dick that John Gibson is...the point of the OP and MMuffin's riff/wordplay in reaction to it.

Other people tend to be more absolutist, and try to score points over a small mistake in grammar or spelling, or the lack of a qualifier.
We all know people like that.

Heck, I get an urge when people use "their/they're" incorrectly, for example - but have learned to refrain, for the sake of politeness - sometimes it is difficult, so you have my sympathy.

But hey, score your points Mighty warrior!
Make her admit she is wrong, in public! It will make you look BIG!
Maybe you can make a fellow progressive feel inadequate to you. Cool!
Hunting season on DU. What a waste.
