Note: Though I've written about their efforts, I am not in any way affiliated with DraftGore.com - I have instead worked with Netroots for Gore and America for Gore for the past many months. That being said, Draft Gore's work and publicity has been incredible, especially of late, and that's why I'm glad I was able to take part in a short interview with one of their spokespeople and share with you what's on tap for the next week and a half. The spokesperson has asked to remain anonymous.

Me: First off, thank you for everything you've done over the past months and years. Let me jump right into things - after the impressive New York Times ad, the Draft Gore movement was the political story for a few days. Despite the terrific press, almost all of the pundits and talking heads don't think Gore is going to enter the race this late in the game. What are your thoughts on that?

Draft Gore: DraftGore.com feels it's done a good job getting their name out there. They've been interviewed by virtually every major newspaper in the nation and incredibly around the world while appearing on MSNBC's Hardball and ABC's Good Morning America. But DraftGore.com feels it needs to reframe the debate and do a better job convincing the political world and Al Gore himself that a 2008 Gore candidacy is a slamdunk.

Including:

And finally, in a poll that has implications in both a potential general and primary election, Survey USA polled a Gore v. Giuliani matchup in Iowa. Here, Al trounces Giuliani 51-42%, a huge improvement over both his 2000 performance, where Gore won by 1%, as well as Kerry's '04 showing where he lost by 1%. I also said this could have some important bearing on the primary because it also polls Hillary against Giuliani. Here, Hillary still wins, but it's by a less comfortable 48-43%. Without crosstabs available, it's impossible to judge where exactly their respective support differs, but this polls suggests that Gore has more overall strength in Iowa than Hillary - without organization, without spending a single dollar, etc etc.

With each passing day, the window to jump in closes ever so slightly. The window likely gets boarded up on November 2nd, the New Hampshire filing deadline, if he hasn't jumped in by then. With poll after poll showing that Gore would not only be competitive, but could very well win the primary election and almost certainly win the general election, now is the time Al. If you're reading this, please heed the call of the millions who so desperately want you to lead them over the next eight years.

Yes, Mr Gore, we're ready and so are you.

It is time for those of us who care, compassionately, to avert disaster - for humanity and for all life on our planet earth.

The alternative is obviously catastrophic and inexcusable because we have the knowledge and the ability to avert it.

Time to act, intelligently and compassionately, NOW. We need you as the Presidential candidate and we will elect you President.

Thank you,
Bob
