68. A slight nitpick on your post...
Truman and Johnson didn't lose. They both just chose not to run again. Truman wanted to retire, and Johnson was disgraced by the mess he helped create in Vietnam.

Anyway, I disagree with your analysis of the situation. I think impeachment at this point has significant symbolic value. We need to show the country and the world that Bush's abuses of power are NOT okay. By doing nothing, we do not discourage a future president, whether Dem or Repub, from doing the same.
We need to uphold the constitution. Just standing by and doing nothing is not acceptable. This is our COUNTRY, if we don't defend the very basic principals on which it was founded, we compromise everything.
