We have a sister town in Nicaragua, and this is the third year that we've held a dinner to raise funds for the project, which includes funding a library, providing scholarships, and bringing kids here, for the last few years.

The turn-out was amazing. Hundreds of people for two sittings of dinner, a short movie about last year's trip to Nicaragua, and live music by a father and son from that country.

Here are a couple of things I observed:

People from all walks of life and of all political persuasions were in attendance.

We recycle everything- including the plastic forks and knives.

Tons of beautiful little kids

and just something I noticed: Not a single really overweight adult or child.

Makes me proud of my economically strapped but generous community.
