The January 26th Committee

I just heard from a friend who is active in New England right now.

"Have you heard of the January 26th Committee?"

"No," I replied. "What's that?"

"That's the short title of a group planning to remind New Hampshire voters of the events of January 26, 1992 and 1998."

I went and reminded myself of what that day in history might signify in those two years.

"Not a surprise, really," I resumed, after I caught on. "But what's the long title?"

...

...

...

...

...

"The January 26th Committee of Bamboozled New Hampshire Voters Who Once Believed She Had Sound Judgment, with gear being made up for 'Bamboozleds'."

Oh, Lord.

"I changed my mind about supporting her," I replied, "but not over that stuff."

"Still resonates up here. People take this process seriously, and nobody likes to be fooled. Want a campaign pin for your collection?"

What the hell. Why not?

"Yeah. Doing t-shirts and ballcaps, too?"

"Yup. How many should I send? Work or home?"

"Just send me a few of the ones that have picks in them. Work is fine. Who's bankrolling it?"

Follow the money.

"You wouldn't believe me if I told you. Ask me a year from now. If she's the nominee, I'll buy pints."

Deal!

"Deal."
