Reply #122: Did you ever see that movie Borat? One particularly chilling scene [View All]

(it was meant to be a comedy, and mostly it was, but even as a straight guy myself I recoiled from this particularly creepy "funny" scene)

One of the main themes of the Borat movie is that he kept trying to elicit crazy reactions from various Loyal Bushies around Amerika. One scene was from a rodeo somewhere in the South, I believe.

Borat was chatting with a Bushie, amking his jokes, using the witless as his comic foil and, as I said, trying to elicit their full Bushie evil. Well this one cowboy type was chatting with Borat and saying he should shave his moustache because it made him look Middle Eastern and also gay. The conversation turned to homosexuality and Borat continued making his jokes when this particular exchange made me shudder, because the cowboy wasn't a raving Nazi, just your run of the mill Bushie who was even trying to be tolerant to the "Kazakhstanian".

This is just a paraphrase as it has been awhile since I saw the movie, but the exchange is basically correct

BORAT: Oh, you are speaking of homosexuals. In my home country we whip them and hang them and kill them.

BUSHIE COWBOY in his 40s or 50s perhaps: Yeah, that's what we are trying to get done in this country.

That Bushie fucker said it quite matter-of-factly, and as I said, this was no extreme Bushie but the kind of run-of-the-mill "nice guy" Bushie who is putty in the hands of his Bushie Masters and will countenance or perform a lot of evil with just the tiniest "permission from authority" to do so.

Therefore, a K&R for awareness o the very real danger to gay people that exists here and now, barely restrained by the vestiges of our dying Old Republic.
