The whole "haircut" thing was not about painting him as a hypocrite, but to question his manhood. Remember this non-news event was occuring around the same time that succubus Coulter was calling him a "faggot" and others in the MSM Repuke message machine were performing similar emasculation exercises.
In crude terms, they are attempting to equate populist concerns with being a "pussy." Similar psychological warfare terms were employed in the era of the "bleeding-heart liberal" moniker.
