Plenty of Brown's letters survive, and he was in contact with a lot of the intellectuals of his day-- before and after his attempted uprising. He wasn't insane. He saw an injustice and knew it wasn't going to change by just asking nicely. He was a catalyst in the ending of slavery. Those kinds of heroes aren't treated kindly by the establishment. They don't even talk about MLK's real message, let alone someone like John Brown.
