any more than their past leaders have. They've been actively working to undermine the middle class in this country since they began. That's what got them together, for crying out loud. They always disguised it, but that's what it was.

The only new thing about the Bush-era GOP leadership was that they put all their class warfare right out in the open and tried to call it a virtue. On the occasions when they did try to dress up their agenda, they only put the thinnest of disguises on it, like "Private Accounts" for Social Security. They wanted to kick the ball all the way down the field, not just inch along as their predecessors did. They pushed too hard, and many of their own constituents came to see what they were doing.

We can't let these people put off their failures on a few current politicians. The messes we're in aren't accidental. They're the intentional results of conservative policies.
