2. I'm so sick of this "Support the troops" crap
It's nothing but groupspeak as a way of atoning for the allegedly brutal treatment some guys received at the hands of ignoramuses when they returned from Vietnam. Now, we're all supposed to say we "support the troops" so that we're not perceived as being like those Vietnam-era assholes.

I don't support the troops. Back in the days of Vietnam, we had a draft, and boys got caught and had little choice. I applauded my friends who burned their draft cards, got conscientious objector status, and/or hightailed it to Canada. They weren't about to lose their lives for some idiotic country in SE Asia that meant nothing to them.

Same with Iraq, only it's lousier now, because it's all volunteers. I feel for them, I truly do. But I'd like to see them lay down their arms and say, 'We're not doing this any more. This is bogus. This is bullshit. This is not our war."

That's why I don't "support the troops."
