4. He doesn't need the money NOW
Halliburton was teetering on the brink of bankruptcy at the end of 2002, imperiling Mr. Cheney's deferred compensation as its former CEO. But then, something wonderful happened. And Halliburton was able to pay Mr. Cheney every penny it had promised him, and more. Sure, it sucked for several hundred thousand people who got killed, and millions more who saw their countries blown to bits, but you can't make a really delicious omelette without breaking a few eggs, you know?

So the extra $2 mil Cheney is going to get paid for "writing" a carefully circumscribed memoir that will studiously avoid mentioning any of Dick's crimes against humanity is just, you know, gravy. Sure, 20 families could live pretty well for a year on that money, and Dick doesn't really need it, but you know . . . tough. Dick gots to get paid some more.
