56. I think the backlash started under Clinton...where folks felt "Female Activists" went too far
and what happened was that Females more and more became like Males...and left behind many of their fellow females. Not saying that was a bad thing...but in "eqaualizing rights" we females lost some other rights.

Reporters who were pioneers in the first females to "break the barrier" like 80 something year old Helen Thomas were seen as "old stuff...old legacy" by her fellow reporters and the WH Press Pool. They really thought she was too old to deal and given their male bantering age group (along with young females) they found her a humorous old lady...and they didn't want to defend her when many just wanted to take her seat.

I'm, probably being very harsh...but amonst the DC Press Corps it's a "Winner Take All." At that time they all saw themselves as having the influence of "Wall Street Traders" given that so many of them came out of the same elitist schools but chose to go into a "lesser paying profession...NEWS" than their brothers, sisters and cousins.

I'm getting ahead of myself here...but the NEW WORLD has little respect for Legacy Journalists of integrity like Helen Thomas. They'd much rather promote Joe Klein and Thomas Friedman as GURU's than listen to Helen..:-( the worse for us....who did hope for better reporting from the Washington Crowd.
