Most dangerous states: Crime rankings for 2010

FYI; This thread is a little misleading. The “2010” is a published date of CQ Press’ “Crime State Rankings 2010” published date 03/23/2010.
Most of the crime data is from the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report. which is available every fall for the previous year. The most recent complete, Uniform Crime Report was released back on September 14, 2009. These statistics are of crimes committed in 2008.
CQ’S “Crime City Rankings 2009-2010” published 11/23/2009 was also compiled from crimes committed in 2008.

There has been some criticism of compiling and publishing “rankings”.
In previous editions, the terms “safest” and “dangerous” were used to describe the states with lowest and highest rankings. These terms are no longer used because perceptions of safety and danger are just that—perceptions.

I find CQ’s and a few other’s publications with their “rankings” quite helpful.
