14. A "conservative investment" has nothing to do with politics.
It's a "safe" investment, which is unlikely to lose value in the near term. Conservative investors are typically looking for ways to save wealth while earning a modest return. Gold, CD's, and Money Market accounts are typically considered to be conservative investments.

It's a bad time to be a conservative investor. CD's and MM's are nearly worthless right now because of the crappy interest rates, and gold IS in a bubble. People are hiding their money in gold because they don't know any better.

I have a few one ounce gold bars in a safe deposit box, but they're more of a conversation piece than an investment. I bought them in late 1999 for about $280 each, and they're worth about $1200 each now thanks to the bubble. It's a nice appreciation, but I wish I'd bought more than three of them :dunce:
