Of course. As always in all civilized societies.

The very fact that this idea is controversial - or not understood - is one of the most telling and alarming signs of just how far we have descended into moral depravity imaginable.

This is the libertarian privatization doctrines run amok.

Responding to emergencies such as this to protect public welfare is the very reason we have governments at all. People disputing this are not merely arguing against all liberal and progressive ideals, against everything that the Democratic party once stood for, they are arguing against all ideas about government from the Enlightenment on - maybe even worse than that.

People are arguing, aggressively and relentlessly, to promote and defend some sort of nightmarish corporate neo-feudalism. It is stunning to see.
