is the name of the fucking corporation. Corporations are owned by their shareholders. Corporations do not have citizenship like us flesh and blood folks. Corporations are supposed to be subject to the laws where they do business. I say suposed to because sometimes the fuckers in office don't have the stones to actually enforce those laws - or to legislate measures that protect natural resources at the expense of the corporations that fund their fucking campaigns.

What role does Britain have over BP regarding BP's oil gusher in US costal waters in the Gulf of Mexico? Not a damn thing they can do about it.

It is up to the US government to enforce our water standards and laws/regulations regarding offshore drilling. Unfortunately, the current administration hasn't exactly been proactive - and in the days before this catastrophe the President endorsed offshore drilling.

The gusher will be stopped when BP figures out how to stop it. The government lacks both the knowledge and the resources to intervene. Obama is going to get to wring his hands and fuss about plugging the damn hole in the meantime. By the time that happens there will be environmental and economic devastation beyond measure - and BP's liability exposure will be limited by US law. That's likely true even if BP employees are shown to be criminally or civilly negligent. There are written policy and procedure manuals and policies that BP will use against their own employees to avoid corporate liability. End result? Those employees will take the fall.

Once again the innocents will be the victims.
