Well said.

I would apply this idea to another point you made, changing
"They own and provide most of what we need in our modern lifestyles"
to say
"They own and provide most of what they have convinced us to believe we need in our modern lifestyles"

So one step many of us can take is simply "Don't buy this shit" (figuratively nor literally).

True, many things we would be hard-pressed to swear off altogether, but we can drastically cut our intake via various strategies.
