Many authors have always used the medium of F&SF to pose questions about culture and human behavior. "If such and such happens, then what? If this, then this. If we take a certain path, what are the logical next steps?"

That background is what makes me look at runaway technology with a very skeptical eye. And we're not going to be able to escape to a different planet to get away from the consequences of our our actions and choices. This is the only planet we have to work with.

I look at the RFID issue, and I see it coming to a family member near me. If not my son who works in the tech sector, then my toddler grandson.

I don't like it at all.
