UPDATE: Rear Admiral Landry Approves “Top Kill” ProcedureFederal On-Scene Coordinator Rear Admiral Mary Landry and the Unified Area Command, acting on the validation of government scientists and in consultation with the National Incident Commander Admiral Thad Allen, have given approval to proceed with the top kill operation today to stop the flow of oil from the MC252 well in the Gulf of Mexico.
The procedure is intended to stem the flow of oil and gas and ultimately kill the well by injecting heavy drilling fluids through the blow out preventer on the seabed, down into the well.
Exxon Mobil CEO says company is helping BP The CEO said almost since the Deepwater Horizon platform leased by BP exploded and sank, his company has offered boats, equipment and its own experts "to work with BP on evaluating various options as to how you might bring this well under control and stop the flow of oil." Exxon has also explained technical issues to government officials, he said.
Relying solely on media pundits, one would get the impression that there are no experts on the scene.
