29. Her Vote Wasn't In Question...
The Commission is in Democratic hands and thus the approval of the merger was based on winning one if not more Democratic votes...which was the case (and with the approval of the administration). The point of her jumping so quickly (similar to what Billy Tauzin did...went straight to K Street after his years in Congress and pushing Telcom '96 through...but he's a Congresscritter) is the eye-opener here. As you rightly note, the "proper" thing to do is to have a cooling period of a year or two in some think-tank or private law practice and then ease into a lobbying gig. The coziness between the regultors and regulated in the communications area has turned our "public airwaves" into private plantations.
